winnie the pooh: swans & bears

DIFFICULTY: RIDICULOUSLY EASY

intro … Everyone knows who Winnie the Pooh is, although maybe you didn’t know that’s what the famous little bear is called in English (same way that Popeye is the spinach-eating character’s name, rather than Joseph the Sailor or Sailor Joe as many Czechs like to call him).

bear … medv?d
spinach … špenát
the woods … les
have a knack for … mít talent na
get along with … vycházet dob?e s
including … v?etn?
grumpy … nabru?ený
paragraph … odstavec

Pooh has lots of friends among the animals in his part of the woods and there’s also a human friend, a young boy named Christopher Robin. Pooh has a knack for getting along with everyone, including the grumpy donkey Eeyore (where have I heard that word before?). Here are the opening paragraphs of the Pooh story, in which we learn how a bear named Edward came to be called Winnie the Pooh.

That was a long time ago, and when we said good-bye, we took the name with _____, because we didn’t think the swan would want it _____.

from then on … od té doby (dál)
walk past a place … projít kolem místa
right away … ihned

Well, when Edward Bear said that he would like to be _____ an exciting name, Christopher Robin said right away, without _____ to think, that he was going to be Winnie-the-Pooh from then _____. And he was. So, I have explained the Pooh part and I will now explain the rest of it.
